Body Painting!
I am going to a dress up party next week and being a non traditionalist, I decided to forgo buying a costume and paint my costume on instead!
Last year sometime I discovered Kryolan DayGlo Aquacolours. They are these amazing water activated body/face paints that glow under UltraViolet lights! They are so so cool! I was so impressed to find a company right here in New Zealand that still sells them, as I believe they are discontinued.
So my costume idea was to paint on my skeleton using this amamzing glow in the dark paint. Unfortunately, my boyfriend (it's his party) assures me there will be no Blacklights at this bar, so I will have to carry a tiny one in my pocket.
I chose the purple DayGlo colour, probably because I have enough makeup to match it. I also bought this dress from ASOS and am eagerly awaiting its delivery

My sister, who is the artsy one, is going to help me do the bits I can't reach, like on my back and left arm. The Kryolan is a little bit difficult to work with, it goes on really really sheer so you have to spend time to build it up. I'm debating wether or not to press an eyeshadow over it to help with longevity and pigmentation.

Makeup look: Jessie J "Nobody's Perfect" Music video
Today I saw a video for this makeup look on YT and I thought it just looked so cool and unique that I would give it a try. It features a twist on Jessie's signature smokey eye and a bold purple-violet lip. The eye kind of reminds me of creepy carnival makeup or creepy clown makeup.
It was really fun makeup to do as well, since I had to mix up a couple of colours to get exactly the right shade, which is something I haven't experimented with before, but it turned out really well!
So this is the look;
Please ignore the messy hair!

FOTD; Merry Winter
Today was the first nice rainy wintry day we've had so far this year, and I'm lovin it. Autumn is a far superior season, you can wear immensely more makeup and that's what I like. I haven't worn eyeliner during the day in I don't know how long.

Face;
So today I did. My skin is seriously wigging out due to the change in eason so I tried to draw a bit of attention away from that and do an eye face. I also wanted to be Lady Gaga ( which I did buy just yesterday). In regards to my outfit; I'm experimenting with turbands, that's all I can say.
Please revel in my cosiness...

Mascara Comparison: Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment vs Rimmel Lash Acelerator
I used to think my eyelashes were nice and long enough to wear them bare of mascara most of the time, then I got my holy grail Anna Sui DX Long Lash Mascara and I realized that my lashes could be SO much better. I'm not exactly a mascara fiend, I'll take pretty much anything and use it for as long as I possibly can untill someone (usually Mum) gets me a new one.

In the red corner: Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara
I used this for about two months and enjoyed it. I've decided that it's really important not to judge a mascara until the formula starts to thicken, about two weeks after you start using it. This was nice and thick right from the get go. The brush is a nice size, traditional hairs & conical shape. Not only does this mascara lengthen your lashes, it also makes the base of your lashes really thick and dense which I love. Staying power is good, it doesnt smudge but definately isn't waterproof so do try not to rub your eyes too much.
In the blue corner: Rimmel Lash Accelerator
I've been using this for a mere two weeks so my opinion on it could change. Just like I mentioned above, the formula is starting to thicken which is good, it was, like, super watery before and I was very unimpressed. I feel like the brush has a tendency to clump up if you dont wipe it off properly. It's an unusual brush, unlike any mascara brush I have ever had before. To most people the whole plastic/rubberised brush phenomenon might not be very cutting edge but to me it is. Overall this mascara does make my lashes BIG, especially when I build it up with two or three coats, and I'm not necessarily hatin' on the clumpy lashed look. I would describe stayingg power as moderate, I'm a committed eye-rubber and that causes this mascara to flake under my eye, definitely noticeable at the end of the day.
Winnner? I'm not sure. My eyelashes are almost positively definitely maybe longer. They seem to reach further up my eye lid than before. I shall post some pictorial evidence and let y'all be the judge! One picture is from December last year and the other is from today!
Stars Makeup Haven Swatcheroo!
I must commend my sister's camera as being exceptionally good. The first pic is the only one not taken in direct sunlight. My faves are 7 and Taz, I'm a sucker for purples & reds. Squeak is nice but a bit boring and sheer, Bayli is really, really powdery and Ally cat iss nice but doesn't really have that much of a wow effect on the lids. Please excuse my hairy arms

Hauly Wauly
I like new stuff, so I got some. Not too much, but just enough to wish myself happy birthday and round out my overall collection a little bit more. These bits are from all over the place, Farmers and St Lukes Mall, http://www.allcosmeticswholesale.com/ and a lil bit o' MAC.
My trusty Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lengthening Lash Treatment Mascara is about to give out and even though I have another unopened one, I felt like it would be more exciting to try something new. In keeping with the theme of lash treatment mascaras, I picked up Rimmel's new Lasg Accelerator for the extra special price of $15.99. I'm thinking a comparison review between these two might be in order??
I also picked up Clinique's Bottom Lash Mascara. This was more of a treat item since I don't tend to have alot of trouble putting mascara on my bottom lashes. Buuuuut the tiny little brush was just too cute to pass up. To be honest this is actually more difficult than a big brush for me to apply, but it looks fantastic on my lashes and doesn't budge so guess what? I dont care. Purchased from the Clinique Counter for $31
Next is something I have actually blogged about before. Remember how I bought that MAC Lip Gelee and then promptly returned it? Guess what I got another one. This time in the colour Luxure which looks way better on me than Bubble Lounge. It has more pink shimmer and looks amaaaaazing over pink lipsticks. I'm really happy with this, it was a lovely birthday present from my faajahh. Purchased from MAC St Lukes for $38
Lucky last are the 5 SMH (Stars Makeup Haven) + ACW (All Cosmetics Wholesale) Exclusive colours. Tou get all 5 Colours and a 12 pan palette which is actually really nice and widdle compared to my gigantor MAC palette. The colours are Squeak - a pale champagne colour, Bayli - a really shimmery silver/grey, Ally Cat - a dirtied silver/grey, 7 - a shimmery plum burgandy and Taz - a matte burgandy brown. Taz is definately my favourite, it looks brown in the pan but blends into a really red-y purple-y toned brown. Very much a thumbs up from me. I'll post swatches very soon! Cost $45 USD (about $60 NZ with a weak exchange rate)

I'm a copy cat...
Everyone else likes Jessie J's makeup so much that I decided it was time for me to give it a crack. I like it too, black lips always get a big thumbs up in my books. My Makeup BFF and i decided that I would wear this entire makeup look out tomorrow night, she's a chicken and only wearing the eyes. My tiny slight problem is that i dont have a black lipstick, so I've had to improvise. Improvising is hard, my current set up is not going to last the night and I don't want a black cloud to slowly swallow my face. I'm going to need to resolve this situation in the next 24 hours.

Wishlist Vol II
The most exciting news of my life is that I got a job. This means, obviously, that I'm going to be able to afford to treat myself a bit more when it when it comes to luxury items, e.g. make-up!

Now this is great, because there are two collections from MAC in particular that have caught my eye.
First is MAC + Wonderwoman. While the colours aren't exactly novel, I feel like just the novelty of having giant MAC products is worth the money. I'm especially eyeing up the giant Mineralize Skinfinish in Golden Lariat and the Lipstick/Lipglass combo in Marquise'D and Emancipation.

There is also new Lady Gaga colour from MAC. Instead of her first trademark pink, this time she has opted for a rich browny nude. This is awesome for me, because browns are colours I've never been brave enough to wear and now that they are in style, I definately have an excuse to!

Also, I quite enjoy being blue. Not like creepy Avatar blue, just a sublte sheen to give a shine to my skin. For this I need MAC Strobe Cream. Due to the fact that my skin is like ridic dry, any type of product I can put under my foundation to liven up my skin gets a thumbs up from me.
Owing to thefact that I'm trying to be a pro makeup artist, I feel its time to get some profeshh items for my 'kit'. I'm thinking Yaby palettes. Eyeshadow palettes come in lots of 40, and although they are quite tricky to get hold of, they are cheap to replace. They also do foundation palettes, concealer, blusher and cream eyeshadows. 40 eyeshadows is literally more than my entire collection right now.

FOTD - 17th of Jan 2011
Today I wanted a really fresh look as I'm catching the ferry today over to Waiheke Is. for a little holiday with my mama. I kept it really simple and light with luminous cheeks and let my eye lashes do all the defining around my eyes instead of liner or a dark shadow like I normally wear. However I kept it current and on trend with a plummy brown lipglass.

Products used:
- Face - MAC Mineralize SPF 15 Foundation (NC37), BYS Bronzer (Golden), BYS Blusher (Peach Sundae)
- Eyes - MAC Eyeshadows (Vex, Shroom & Satin Taupe), Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Mascara
- Lips - MAC Lipglass (Hearts-a-beatin' from the Sassy Coral Lassies Set, Tartan Tale Colltn.)

Top 10 M.A.C Eyeshadows
I only have a meager collection of eye shadows from M.A.C (17), they become exorbitantly expensive in this neck of the woods. But that's not going to stop me ranking my top 10. The ones marked with a * are works in progress. A.K.A I don't actually have them yet.
- Smut
- Club
- Vex
- Satin Taupe
- Humid
- Beauty Marked
- Crystal (*)
- Mulch (*)
- Woodwinked
- Freshwater
It all boils down to this - I love duochromes; that explains Vex, Club and Crystal. Smut and Satin Taupe are my favourite cool toned colours, Beauty Marked and Carbon are excellent blacks. Woodwinked and Mulch are beautiful warm toned gold-browns and Humid and Freshwater are amazingly bright and beautiful green and blues, for when I feel like a more bold and creative look. Voila!
Do they Live Up?
It seems that two of the best loved M.A.C eye shadows amongst the Youtube Beauty community are the infamous Satin Taupe and Patina. Lucky me, I received these two shadows from an awesome Aunt for Christmas, who remarked "Jordan, you do know these eye shadows are exactly the same don't you?" I set her straight
So, lets put them to the test! Are they as amazing as claimed? Why are they do darn popular? Do they earn a place in MY top M.A.C eye shadow list? Lets begin...
I have used either one or the other or both of these shadows every day since I got them. I even took Satin Taupe away on holiday in my Make Up bag. They are both frost finishes, although not at all that frosty.
Patina is very akin to Woodwinked, it sits in the same family of gold tones. However, it has a more burnished undertone to it, meaning it is darker and has less of a metallic finish. Most people agree that this makes it an easier to wear, more universal shade.
Satin Taupe is unlike any colour I've come across before. I didn't even know taupe was called taupe until I discovered this shade. It is very cool toned, half way between grey and brown. This means it looks amazingly natural as a contour colour through the crease. This is one of my favourite looks that I've thrown together using Satin Taupe, Smut, Carbon and Shroom...
I can definitely see why people would fall in love with these. They are both easy to wear for everyday and equally easy to vamp up for a night out. They are definitely the 'good' type of M.A.C shadows, nice and hard with little fall out and amazing staying power. They haven't creased on me once and although I don't *love* them with my whole heart, they are very welcome additions to my collection, and I throughly enjoy using them:)
Sneaky Purchase - M.A.C Cham Pale Collection
Some horrible person on Youtube suckered me in to heading to M.A.C to check out the Lip Gelees from the Cham Pale Collection. I came to the conclusion that they were very pretty, but not for me. Of course, I came to that conclusion after I had already purchased one, Bubble Lounge. After about ten minutes I came to my senses and returned it, now I want it back. *Sigh*, Maybe another day. I do already have 2 Lip Glosses in the mail anyway.
I diiiiid however, manage to sneak away with a Special Reserve Highlight Powder in Rose Ole. How exotic. The lovely M.A.C Lady conned me into buying it, but secretly I wanted to treat myself. Plus it's just so puuuurrrdy! I'm pretty much too scared to use it and ruin its loveliness. It's pretty and golden and shimmery on my face without being like WOAH! Discoball.
I'm very much embracing the glowing "lit from within" look for the tail end of summer and into (eek) autumn. I've never had a proper, for-real highlighter, so here's hoping ?I really fall in love with this one. Isn't it funny how often you come out of a M.A.C store with something you never intended to get in the first place? Hmmm
